LINE MANAGER: Plant Manager

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Plant Manager, responsible for the management and development of the Engineering and Maintenance, Fuel Handling and Operation teams to ensure safe generation and environmental performance of the plant. Accountable for ensuring that the plant is operated and maintained with respect to safety, environmental, OEM-best practice guidelines and operational limits, to ensure the highest levels of availability, reliability and efficiency are achieved. Responsible for ensuring all operational first line maintenance, operational routines and testing activities are carried out to achieve availability and reliability targets required. Responsible for maintaining site operations procedures and management instructions at all times. Responsible for (and participation in) site housekeeping programmes. Accountable for establishing the longer term engineering integrity and maintenance strategy for all mechanical, electrical and C&I assets within the station and establishing an asset risk register to provide guidance and information to the stations business plan.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, management and inspiration to motivate and develop a world class multifunctional team.
  • Responsible for the 24/7 safety and environmental performance of the plant and associated site wide security arrangements.
  • Maximising the availability of the plant and taking proactive measures to improve plant reliability, efficiency and performance.
  • Ownership and management of Process Safety for the site, ensuring occurrences are recorded, understood, communicated and learning embedded.
  • Implement the companies' health, safety and environmental management policies and all applicable UK legislation.
  • Establish, maintain and test site emergency arrangements including procedures for abnormal plant conditions.
  • Overall responsibility for the site safety rules (Permit to Work) arrangements, authorisations and appointments.
  • Assist in the creation and development of the site long-term business plan and strategic objectives.
  • Build and maintain a culture of teamwork where team members achieve their full potential.
  • Lead and assist in incident investigations to ensure root cause(s) are identified with all learning embedded within the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree educated within an Engineering discipline with a high level of practical thermal plant operational or engineering and maintenance knowledge.
  • A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement.
  • Preferable knowledge and experience of biomass or thermal power plant process, safe systems of work, HV switching and switchgear, steam cycle chemistry, boiler and turbine operation and performance monitoring.
  • Five years experience in a maintenance centered managerial role.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills in English.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
