BWB Consulting is seeking an Associate Director (Ecology) to work from our Nottingham or Leeds office. The role blends technical leadership, team management and business development, and requires a commercially aware ecologist with a strong technical background and proven consultancy experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver complex ecological projects from inception to completion.
- Provide technical oversight and quality assurance, especially on bat‑related work.
- Manage project teams, resources and budgets to ensure successful delivery.
- Support business development activities, including bid preparation and client engagement.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a strong and capable team.
- Contribute to the broader growth and direction of the environmental team.
Required Licences
- Natural England Class 2 Bat Licence (essential).
- EPS licences for bats (or ability to obtain them).
Preferred Experience
- Leadership of bat surveys, mitigation and licensing work.
- BREEAM Land Use and Ecology assessments.
- Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
- Knowledge of nitrogen deposition and its impacts on designated sites.
- Public Inquiry support.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 6+ years’ experience within ecological consultancy.
- Degree or Master’s in Ecology or a related discipline.
- Full membership of CIEEM.
- Full UK driving licence.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage workloads and deliver projects on time, to quality, and within budget.
- Commercial awareness, including financial and client management.
- Leadership skills, with the ability to support and develop others.
