BWB Consulting has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer or Transport Planner to join our growing Transport & Accessibility Planning team. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, with a desire to contribute to a growing team and develop their professional career with BWB.

At Senior level, you will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the delivery of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Masterplans, Traffic Engineering schemes (active travel, sustainable transport and corridor improvement schemes), and other technical reports to support scheme development, planning applications and other transport related projects, both for the public and private sector.
  • Working with other members of the Transport & Accessibility Planning Team, other BWB teams, private and public sector Clients, architects, and planners, throughout the project life cycle.
  • Understanding and ability to apply appropriate technical standards (such as Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Traffic Modelling Guidelines, Manual for Streets and Local Authority Design Guides).
  • Supporting the preparation of fee proposals for new projects and working with senior colleagues and Account Managers to ensure projects are delivered to budget and that KPIs are met.
  • Supporting meetings, including negotiations with Local Authorities and other regulatory bodies.

Our projects vary significantly, including in size from small scale through to national infrastructure projects. There is also the opportunity to undertake project management, contribute to the management of project finances, and undertake mentoring and training with more junior team members. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to undertake business development activities and they will be able to make a significant contribution to the direction and growth of our team.

You will be able to demonstrate experience in traffic engineering, transport planning for development, including analysis and assessment. In addition, we would be seeking:

  • The ability to assist other senior colleagues with dealing with Clients, local authorities and other regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledge of Client briefs, fee proposals and the effective delivery of project work.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to communicate well.
  • Good technical writing skills, and you should be able to demonstrate a sound working competence in the use of MS Office products (including Excel and Word).
  • The ability to prepare Transport Statements/ Assessments, Junction or Network Improvement Studies and Impact Assessments, Travel Plans, ES Chapters, Access Studies, and other transport related documents, preparing AADT/AAWT flows for air/noise assessments with some wider experience in technical design and master planning.
  • Experience of operating and interpreting industry standard junction capacity assessment applications such as Junctions 11 and LinSig, preferably including experience, or understanding of larger network modelling.
  • Experience of preparing and checking scheme design drawings and figures using packages such as AutoCAD and GIS.
  • The ability to work effectively in an unsupervised environment, leading a piece of work or working within a project team.
  • The ability to demonstrate management techniques including project and resource management as well as the mentoring of junior staff.
  • A degree in an analytical subject such as engineering, geography, mathematics or similar.
  • Ideally membership of a relevant professional institution (CIHT, CILT, IHE, TPS, ICE).
