BW ESS is a global energy storage owner-operator, moving with speed to develop, deliver and operate market-leading projects. The business is active in the UK, Australia, Italy, Germany, Spain and Sweden. It has more than 540MWh of operating Battery Energy Storage Systems, with approximately 12GWh under construction and a development pipeline of several gigawatts. Part of BW Group, BW ESS builds on decades of global infrastructure experience, takes a long-term view of projects and partnerships, and focuses on unlocking value throughout the energy storage asset lifecycle.
Our culture rests on a few clear foundations: talent density over team size, flexible people over fixed structures, context over control, results over processes, and transparent, clear feedback. We move fast, give people real ownership early, and expect strong judgement and accountability in return.
The Role
As Portfolio FP&A Manager, you will support our growing UK operating BESS portfolio, reporting to the Director of FP&A and Treasury. The role focuses on financial modelling, non-statutory reporting, valuation and treasury analysis, working closely with Asset Management to monitor performance and support value creation across the portfolio.
What You’ll Do
- Reporting and analysis: Own recurring non-statutory reporting for UK operating assets, including monthly and quarterly packs for management, board, shareholders and lenders. Produce variance analysis against budget, forecast and investment case, and maintain portfolio KPIs, dashboards and reporting tools. Turn high-volume, often unstructured operational and market data into clear, decision-ready outputs.
- Forecasting and analytics: Own and maintain financial models of operating assets, improving their robustness, consistency and automation over time. Update models for actuals, revised forecasts and operational assumptions, and support annual budgets and periodic reforecasts. Model and monitor debt covenant compliance, headroom and forward projections at asset and SPV level. Support asset valuation and impairment testing, and asset-level cashflow forecasting and liquidity analysis.
- Performance and value creation: Work closely with Asset Management to monitor operational and financial performance, coordinate data from multiple stakeholders, and identify trends, risks and opportunities across the portfolio.
- Treasury and capital support: Support distribution planning and modelling, and portfolio-level treasury strategy and execution. Help respond to bank and investor requests on reporting and covenants. Track debt service metrics, reserve accounts and distributions at asset level, and produce weekly, monthly and quarterly cash snapshots.
- Transactions support: Provide ad-hoc financial due diligence support on new M&A opportunities and disposals.
- Data and process: Improve the consistency and scalability of reporting and modelling processes, and make sure outputs are accurate, timely and consistent. Apply scripting or AI-enabled tools to improve reporting efficiency and analytical depth.
What You’ll Bring
- Finance qualification, such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
- 3+ years' experience in budgeting, forecasting, valuation, impairment or covenant analysis, and management and performance reporting, including lender and shareholder reporting
- Comfort working with operational and financial datasets from multiple systems
- Strong Excel and presentation skills, with an eye for clear, concise data presentation
- Organised, detail-oriented and process-driven, able to manage multiple models and recurring deadlines
- Ability to explain complex financial and operational information simply to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience in one or more of: project finance, battery storage, infrastructure, energy, renewables
- Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment with evolving data structures and priorities
- Authorisation to work in the UK
Nice to have:
- Practical experience with a programming or scripting language for analysis or automation (e.g. Python, VBA), or with AI-enabled analysis tools
- Experience with SQL, data platforms, APIs or other structured datasets
- Familiarity with BI and dashboard tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
