Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for an Analyst/Associate at BW ESS based in one of our main European offices in Zürich or London. The position will sit within the Revenue team and will be responsible for benchmarking optimisers and optimisation strategies and supporting the continuous improvement of commercial strategies for BW ESS’s BESS portfolio. The Revenue & Optimisation Analyst/Associate will work closely with trading counterparties, commercial advisors and internal stakeholders (including asset management, project teams) to assess optimiser performance, identify revenue uplift opportunities and provide clear, data‑driven recommendations for commercial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimizer & Strategy Benchmarking
    • Benchmark optimiser performance across markets and assets, comparing realised outcomes against benchmarks
    • Maintain clear frameworks to assess optimiser performance, including KPIs, scorecards and periodic reviews
    • Support RfP and selection processes for optimiser mandates
  • Revenue & Portfolio Analysis
    • Analyse asset‑ and portfolio‑level revenue performance and identify value drivers and underperformance
    • Review hedge, long-term contracting performance and provide recommendations to refine hedging strategy
  • Commercial Strategy, Regulatory & Market Insight
    • Monitor relevant power market and regulatory developments and assess implications for the BESS portfolio
    • Act as a key point of contact for optimisers, counterparties and commercial advisors, ensuring a transparent, performance‑driven relationship
    • Coordinate and challenge external advisors on revenue modelling, trading strategies and market views
  • Project and Portfolio Support
    • Partner with project, engineering and asset management teams to align project design and operating strategies with revenue optimisation objectives
    • Analyse market and contractual risk, quantify exposures and translate them into clear, data‑driven recommendations
    • Provide input into investment cases on optimiser assumptions, trading strategies and revenue stacks
    • Support continuous improvement of data & AI infrastructure including tools and reporting used for performance monitoring

Candidate Profile

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with proficiency in modelling and data analysis (e.g. Excel; experience with Python or similar is a plus)
  • Curious and proactive approach, with a strong interest in renewable energy and the energy transition
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI‑enabled tools (e.g. for data analysis, forecasting, reporting automation or document drafting) to enhance speed and quality of work, with a strong willingness to experiment and adopt new technologies
  • Experience in power markets within a trading house, utility, optimiser, consultancy, investment bank or asset owner
  • Proven ability to interpret trading and market data, draw clear conclusions and communicate them to non‑specialist stakeholders
  • Experience working with or for optimisers, route‑to‑market providers or trading desks is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional European languages are an advantage
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a lean, high accountability environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related quantitative field
