Working For : British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) Salary : £34,000 - £38,000 Length of Contract : Permanent Location : Hybrid working .

Minimum 2 days per week from London office , 2 days per month from the BVRLA office (River Lodge, Amersham, Bucks , HP7 0DD).

In addition, this role is likely to involve some travel elsewhere in the UK and occasional overnights.

About the role: The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) is looking for a Campaigns Officer to support its award-nominated public affairs and campaign work.

Working with our Public Affairs Manager, as part of the Policy and Research team, you will support the development and coordination of effective policy engagement campaigns, including member mobilisation, building relationships with key political contacts, and raising the profile of our work.

This is an exciting and varied role in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, with lots of opportunity to gain wide-ranging experience.

About you: We are seeking a skilful public affairs professional with proven experience gained through employment with a UK Political Party, the Civil Service, a Member of Parliament or a policy/public affairs post within another organisation.

You will need excellent writing skills, including the ability to present clear and compelling information to a variety of different audiences via reports, briefing notes, news articles, consultation responses, social media, speeches and presentations.

You will join a talented, highly motivated and supportive team and will be expected to work across a range of fast-moving policy areas including electric vehicles, decarbonisation, future mobility, consumer finance, and motor taxation.

Key Tasks and

Responsibilities

  • Engage with MPs and their staff, Select Committees, and other industry stakeholders to raise awareness of the BVRLA, its members and their policy priorities.
  • Coordinate campaigning activities, strategies and programmes of work that support the BVRLA’s policy aims and objectives.
  • Represent the BVRLA at key external working groups, conferences, and other third-party events.
  • Support members to engage directly with MPs via the ‘Industry Champions’ programme.
  • Lead the BVRLA’s technical understanding of Bills passing through the Commons and the Lords.
  • Provide high-quality policy briefings for BVRLA colleagues, MPs and members.
  • Work with colleagues in communications, compliance, training, and events to maximise the impact of BVRLA and member activities with key stakeholders in Government, media and elsewhere.
  • Distil the BVRLA’s political and operational insight on policy matters into accessible content for members.
  • Provide content and administrative support for a range of BVRLA research projects, meetings, and events.

Professional and personal requirements

  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral.
  • A solid understanding of UK Parliament, politics, procedure and policymaking.
  • A proven self-starter who takes the initiative, brings drive and creativity to the role and can multi-task and engage with potential new members.
  • At least 1 years’ experience in a political environment, ideally from a consultancy, thinktank, media role, trade association or parliament.
  • Excellent research skills and the ability to distil and summarise complex topics into easy-to-understand formats for a variety of audiences.
  • Grit, determination, and a willingness to stretch themselves at all times in order to learn and develop.
  • Confident in media (including social media) relations and able to support colleagues to gain or manage media coverage and reputation.
