The BVI Financial Services Commission (“the Commission”) is seeking a highly motivated professional to join its Information Technology Unit (“IT”) in the role of System Administrator I. The successful candidate will support the Unit in maintaining the efficiency and security of the Commission’s systems, applications, and infrastructure services. Applicants should be independently motivated and able to work within a diverse team. Candidates must adhere to the Commission’s service standards and confidentiality requirements, demonstrate the ability to follow established procedures, and effectively manage competing priorities with strong attention to detail.

The role involves performing routine system administration tasks, including system monitoring, backups, application support, and assisting with infrastructure services. The incumbent is expected to maintain accurate documentation and escalate more complex issues as needed to ensure reliable IT operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily system monitoring of servers, storage, backups, event logs, and core infrastructure alerts, and report abnormalities promptly.
  • Administer routine Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and related service tasks, including account maintenance, permissions, group membership, patching support and basic configuration changes.
  • Assist with server builds, rebuilds, upgrades, software deployment, backup verification, restore testing and routine maintenance in accordance with approved standards.
  • Provide second-tier support for issues escalated from End User Support Technicians and coordinate with more senior team members when further escalation is needed.
  • Support enterprise services such as Exchange or Microsoft 365 messaging, IIS or web services, file services, printing, antivirus, monitoring tools and endpoint management solutions as assigned.
  • Assist with operational support for telecommunications, IP telephony, network-connected infrastructure and electronic physical security systems under guidance from senior staff.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, change logs, configuration records, inventory details and operating procedures.
  • Participate in disaster recovery, backup validation, vulnerability remediation and after-hours support rotations as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum qualification for the role: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline. Approximately 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, advanced desktop support or a closely related IT operations role.

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server administration, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 administration, backup concepts and endpoint support.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switching, VLANs and VPN connectivity.
  • Ability to follow change control, security standards, escalation procedures and written technical instructions with consistency.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage multiple routine tasks and deadlines.
