The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

This role is within our small, but growing VAT Consultancy team. This team of four specialists provide support to a wide range of clients, including corporate businesses, charities and individuals dealing with different rates and rules of VAT. This busy team provide their clients with expert advice on a variety of issues including the VAT liability of income, VAT deduction and partial exemption, property transactions, business acquisitions and the place of supply. The team also advises on HMRC dispute resolution including appeals to the Tax Tribunal.

We are looking for a VAT manager who will be able to advise clients, partners and staff of Buzzacott LLP on matters of indirect taxation and assist with the continued growth of our corporate VAT offering.

Key aspects of the role include:

  1. Prepare and review complex VAT returns and annual adjustments – most clients have partial exemption, and/or business/non-business apportionment to contend with.
  2. Prepare voluntary declarations for VAT.
  3. Undertake VAT health checks on client activities and prepare report of findings/recommendations.
  4. Advise on liability queries – VAT treatment of transactions, place of supply of services queries, contract reviews, etc.
  5. Advise on property issues, including new builds, building works, capital goods scheme, option to tax, sales (and TOGCs), and cost issues.
  6. Respond to ad hoc questions from clients/team members on a wide range of issues.
  7. Contribute to VAT team publications.
  8. Undertake training for clients/staff, as appropriate.
  9. Identify potential sources of work from existing and potential new clients.
  10. Consider cross-selling opportunities (audit/tax/strategic advice).
  11. Develop relationships with client advisors (lawyers, etc).

You are the right person for the role if you have:

  1. CTA and/or AIIT part qualified, qualified or qualified by experience.
  2. Experience of providing planning and structuring VAT advice on transactions.
  3. Experience of dealing with the wide variety of VAT issues faced by clients in the corporate sector.
  4. The ability to work well with team members.
  5. The ability to clearly explain complex issues to colleagues, clients and HM Revenue & Customs, both verbally and in writing.
  6. A positive and practical attitude.
  7. You will also be approachable, with a willingness to support other team members and a desire to learn and progress.
