Role Overview
To provide quality accounting services to clients within the Business Services Team, with a particular focus on FCA‑regulated clients and those in the financial services sector.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Managing a growing client portfolio, and carrying out all accounting work for a range of profit‑making organisations in accordance with the firm’s procedures and statutory requirements. This includes planning, executing, completing and producing client‑ready product independently and with minimum supervision.
- Preparing management accounts and statutory financial reports, including consolidated accounts, using computerised accounting systems.
- Preparing/reviewing VAT Returns, including partial exemption rules.
- Advising on regulatory capital resources.
- Delegating, supervising and reviewing the work of junior members, providing constructive feedback and support, including being involved in their development.
- Providing general accounting services and assistance to clients in the preparation of accounts and VAT returns, such as preparing working papers for management or statutory accounts.
- Recommending improvements to clients’ accounting systems and controls and assisting them whenever needed.
- Understanding the specification of the assignment agreed with the client and reporting immediately to the Manager (or Partner) when changes may be necessary.
- Taking ownership of an assignment and seeing it through to completion with a willingness to solve issues as they arise.
- Supporting and developing trainees within the team, mentoring them through their qualifications.
- Supporting the Manager and/or Partner with client pitch documentation and meetings.
Skills and Experience
- 3 A‑levels (or equivalent – minimum 120 UCAS points)
- Good GCSE results with a minimum B/level‑6 in Maths and English (or equivalent)
- ACCA or ACA qualified
- Experience working within a practice
- Experience preparing and reviewing statutory, management accounts and VAT returns
- Experience supporting and training junior members of the team
- Knowledge of UK GAAP, specifically FRS 102 and FRS 102 1A
- Client‑facing experience, preferably within the financial services sector
- MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software: Sage, QuickBooks or Xero (desirable); experience with CaseWare is also advantageous.
