Team Overview
Our Business Services team is one of Buzzacott's largest, comprising of around 70 professionals who provide specialist support to a diverse range of privately owned businesses across multiple sectors including financial services.
The team delivers a comprehensive suite of outsourced services, including management accounting, VAT, payroll, company secretarial support, and regulatory reporting, and has a strong training ethos with a focus on developing individuals who want to build a career in accountancy.
Within Business Services sits our specialist Financial Services Accounting team, which provides outsourced accounting support to a broad range of FCA-regulated firms and financial services businesses.
Our client base ranges from entrepreneurial start-ups and growing businesses to well-established inbound subsidiaries of US hedge-fund managers.
Acting as an extension of our clients' finance functions, we deliver proactive support, valuable financial insight and help businesses navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment and help clients achieve their strategic objectives.

The Role
This is a practical, learning focused role.
You will learn on the job, gaining real world experience working alongside experienced accounting specialists.
You will not sit professional exams during your placement year, but you will build the foundational skills and knowledge that could support a future training contract should you choose to pursue a career in accountancy.
Training will include structured on the job learning, internal workshops, and support from managers, senior colleagues and our Learning & Development team.
This placement could be the first step in your career with Buzzacott, with successful students often progressing to our graduate programmes after completing their degree.
- What You’ll Be Doing
- Act as a trainee accountant in the Business Services team, working with a wide range of profit-making organisations.
- Conduct all accounting work, in compliance with the firm’s and statutory procedures.
- Prepare accounts, including consolidated accounts, from both manual and computerised accounting records.
- Provide general accounting services and assistance to clients in the preparation of accounts, for example preparing working papers.
- Recommend improvements to the clients’ accounting systems and controls and assisting clients whenever needed.
- Keep Seniors, Managers and Partners informed of the progress on the team’s jobs.
- Budget for your time and keep costs within budget wherever possible.
- For smaller assignments, plan and complete the accounts file as per the relevant Completion Checklist.
- Provide technical support to the team and its clients in investigating defined issues as well as liaison with Seniors and Managers of the team.
- Assist in the administration of the Business Services team as requested and when time allows.
- Be proactive and take responsibility for becoming fully familiar and confident with all the firm’s IT policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance and to helping to promote these policies within the firm.
- Take an interest in the affairs of, and get to know, the clients so that you are aware of current work being dealt with by the Partners, Directors and Managers.
- What We’re Looking For
- Working towards a 2:1 degree, with your first year achieved.
- 144 UCAS tariff points from 3 A-levels, or equivalent, including a Grade A in Computer Science, Economics or Maths.
- Level 7 (A grade using the old system) in GCSE Maths and English Language, or equivalent.
- Competence with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
- The right to work in the UK without restrictions for the duration of the placement.
