We are partner‑led and focused on people – our team and our clients. We combine market‑leading sector expertise with excellent service capability to provide exceptional service in our chosen markets.

Team Overview

Legislation is always changing, and it is up to the Business Tax Team – made up of approximately 40 people – to stay on top of it. In this team, you will help put together tax strategies that suit the needs of clients, their employees, shareholders and the tax authorities. You will look for opportunities to support clients and assist them with changes that may impact their business. The work you do will vary depending on the needs of clients and may involve supporting fast‑growth entrepreneurial businesses, intergenerational family businesses, professional practices and international groups. The team has a strong training ethos, welcoming students who want to begin developing a career in tax. This placement role is due to commence in August 2026.

The Role

As a Year in Industry Placement Student, you will work with the Business Tax team’s clients under the supervision of more senior team members. You will assist with tax compliance, support on advisory projects, and help identify opportunities for further services. This is a practical, learning‑focused role. You will learn on the job, gaining real‑world experience working alongside tax specialists. You will not sit professional exams during your placement year, but you will build the foundational skills and knowledge that could support a future training contract should you choose to pursue a career in tax or accountancy. Training will include structured on‑the‑job learning, internal workshops, and support from managers, senior colleagues and our Learning & Development team.

What’s In It For You

We go above and beyond for our clients, but also for you. Your development matters to us, and you will be given the guidance and support needed to make the most of your placement year. You’ll be supported by:

  • A manager acting as your mentor
  • A trainee buddy
  • Senior staff and partners
  • Our dedicated Learning & Development team

You will gain exposure to real client work, build professional skills and experience life within a leading tax team.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Preparing draft tax computations and returns for a range of corporate clients and partnerships, under supervision.
  • Assisting with drafting correspondence on technical tax matters for review.
  • Helping to resolve basic queries with clients via email, Teams calls or in meetings.
  • Assisting in preparing clear, accurate letters for submission to HMRC.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the firm as part of our full‑service offering.
  • Developing your technical understanding and supporting Managers on interesting tax advisory projects.

What We’re Looking For

  • Working towards a 2:1 degree, with your first year achieved.
  • 120 UCAS tariff points from 3 A-levels, or equivalent.
  • Level 6 (B grade using the old system) in GCSE Maths and English Language, or equivalent.
  • Competence with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • The right to work in the UK without restrictions for the duration of the placement.

Please note we do not accept General Studies.

What You’ll Bring

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate professionally with colleagues and clients.
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and a willingness to take initiative.
  • A problem‑solving mindset and eagerness to learn.
  • Sound ethical judgement and professionalism.
