We are looking for a Band 5 Theatre Practitioner in beautiful South Devon. The successful candidate will work in the inpatient theatre department and be responsible for delivering high‑quality, patient‑focused care while maintaining a safe environment for all patients attending theatres.
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to achieve a high standard of patient care and positively impact patients’ peri‑operative journey.
- Act as a Scrub Practitioner and circulate within theatres, providing quality care and upholding standards.
- Supervise students, operating department practitioners, nurses on the Adaptation Programme and post‑registration learners.
- Lead as a team leader within theatres.
- Coordinate the department in the absence of a Band 6, under the supervision of a Band 7.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered Operating‑Department Practitioner (HCPC).
- Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care.
- Organisational and leadership skills.
- Flexibility to provide service cover during nights, weekends and on‑call periods as required.
- Highly developed physical/clinical skills where accuracy is important.
- Manual dexterity for setting up equipment and safe use of medical devices.
- Ability to move and manually handle patients and equipment.
- Counselling/supporting staff, patients and relatives.
- Concentration in theatre: setting up theatre, checking patients in and assisting during operations.
- Orthopaedic experience (desirable).
- Multiskilling – competency in anaesthetics, surgery and recovery (desirable).
