An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Resuscitation service as a Resuscitation Practitioner Band 6. You will be based at the Horizon Centre at Torbay Hospital and work with colleagues and patients across the entire organisation. Working within a team and wider directorate of dedicated, passionate, and highly skilled professionals, you will contribute to the development of colleagues from all areas of our organisation, collaborating to help support, advise, and galvanise confidence and ability in others, which in turn affords better care and outcomes for patients and service users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work autonomously and as part of the team and wider Education directorate, reporting to the operational Lead and deputising where needed.
  • Lead debriefing sessions both post-arrest (hot) and more in-depth pastoral debriefs (cold).
  • Provide specialised advice and guidance on resuscitation.
  • Attend resuscitation committee/council meetings.
  • Support clinical staff in the resuscitation of patients.
  • Work within adult and paediatric domains in a resuscitation capacity.
  • Carry out project work for the education directorate as directed.
  • Support other areas of educational need as and when required.
  • Support colleagues clinically during critical incidents and during OPEL 4 conditions (within scope of practice).
  • Assist with service delivery needs such as mask-fit testing, first aid at work courses, and risk assessment.
  • Audit compliance of resuscitation policies, procedures, and training; implement necessary actions.
  • Perform first-line maintenance of resuscitation and training equipment used by the Resuscitation Services team.
  • Conduct quarterly audits and spot checks of resuscitation trolleys/equipment in line with clinical governance.
  • Collate, update, and disseminate information regarding cardiac arrests; maintain data for internal and national audits.
  • Involve in cardiac-arrest review and root-cause analysis.
  • Report discrepancies and ensure full compliance of resuscitation and related policies.
  • Maintain and update policies and standard operating procedures as service needs demand.
  • Maintain competence in basic and advanced life support and other resuscitation areas as agreed with the Resuscitation Lead.
  • Attend the Resuscitation Steering Group meetings and ensure implementation of recommendations within the Trust.
  • Integrate the resuscitation service across acute and community settings.
  • Act as a positive role model at all times for the resuscitation service.
  • Ensure compliance with anaphylaxis training across Trusts.
  • Develop training courses for community hospitals and care of the sick child.
  • Adapt to ensure ongoing relevance and accessibility of all resuscitation-based programmes, including flexible or extended working hours when required.
  • Maintain credibility for resuscitation and clinical skills teaching and keep professional registration up-to-date.
