An opportunity has arisen for an individual to join our team as a Patient & Retail Catering Supervisor to work on a full time permanent contract. Working within the catering team as a Catering Supervisor, you will provide a first class dining experience for the staff, patients and visitors of Torbay hospital.
The catering department is seeking a motivated supervisory staff member to assist in the provision of our patient meal service and our retail outlet which cater for Staff, Visitors and Patients. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the first successful integrated care Foundation trusts in the UK with a reputation and a tradition of innovation which prides itself on its investment in staff both in terms of developing career skills but also its commitment to staff health and wellbeing.
Responsibilities
- Provide a first class dining experience for staff, patients and visitors and liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure standards align with service agreements.
- Provide training and monitoring of staff performance; ensure appropriate allocation of staff to duties.
- Conduct catering audits of sites to uphold standards and take corrective actions; maintain high standards of quality and food safety at all times.
- Support and assist the regeneration and fresh cooked menus provided by catering locations for service users, ensuring a high standard of service delivery across all catering service functions (hospitality, vending, retail and patient feeding) within Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
- Plan and organise activities; some judgments will involve analysis of facts or situations.
- Assist with cleaning, preparation and presentation of meals and beverages; undertake occasional delivery duties; ensure Catering & Retail Support Assistant Higher level resources are provided with equipment and provisions required.
- Demonstrate a flexible attitude to work to meet the needs of the Trust, its customers and patients.
- Support line managers in identifying skills and training required for all staff to meet facilities standards; manage resources effectively to provide sustainable continuity of service; arrange and adjust staff rotas within agreed work schedules.
- Work with a high regard to food safety legislation and in accordance with HACCP procedures and paperwork; provide high-quality service to all customers using all catering facilities and provide efficient administrative support.
- Maintain good safe working practices and hygiene standards and adhere to Food Safety legislation.
- Support progression within the service; learn background skills and knowledge to enable leadership of the team.
- Work effectively as part of a dedicated team or individually; be willing to work flexibly.
- Working rostered shifts available from 06:30 to 20:00, covering 7 days including weekends and bank holidays with varied shift patterns to be discussed at interview.
- Ensure good written and spoken English language skills as there is a requirement to communicate patient choice with colleagues.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in supervising catering staff and delivering patient and retail catering services (hospitality, vending and patient feeding).
- Ability to manage resources, plan menus, and support service delivery within a healthcare environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
- Commitment to food safety legislation and HACCP procedures.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
