Urology are pleased to offer a cancer CNS support nurse role. This role to Urology-Oncology is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated nurse to deliver and provide high quality support and care to patients on the Urological cancer pathways. The role will be working within a team of Urological nurses, cancer nurses and the wider MDT to deliver standards of care and practice associated with the Local and National Cancer frameworks and Guidance.
Due to the expansion of the current Urology Cancer Nursing team, the key role will be to support all members of the team to deliver excellent care to our patients with a diagnosis of a Urological cancer. An experience of nursing within Urology and/or Oncology is preferred although support and education will be provided with mentorship. This role would also be considered for those applicants wishing to learn and develop at a band 5 as a developmental role into a Band 6.
Main duties of the job:
- To provide specialist uro-oncology advice and clinical practice to patients within the urological outpatient and inpatient setting.
- Working closely with the CNS's for urology and the Urology team, to maintain and develop the delivery of best practice in the care and management of urological cancers from referral or diagnosis onwards.
- Providing care and support for patients who have metastatic disease.
- Act as referral and liaison for the MDT and an information resource for those who are involved in the care and management of urological malignancies.
- To work autonomously as a specialist resource for urology patients with cancer conditions, their carers and other professionals.
- Work collaboratively with Nurse Specialist and Consultant Medical Staff in Uro-Oncology, monitoring and evaluating standards of care to meet National Guidelines.
- Provide care for a case load of patients.
- Work collaboratively with the Cancer Support Worker to deliver HNA assessments and end of treatment summaries.
- Expedite patient’s admission and discharge processes.
- Aim to prevent unnecessary patient uro-oncology admissions.
- Ensure a seamless efficient care pathway for the uro-oncology patient.
About Us:
The Urology Outpatient service sees both cancer and benign patients in the outpatient setting, running nurse and consultant led procedure and investigation clinics daily. We offer support and advice to patients and other professionals within the acute and community setting and work alongside other departments to enhance the patient's pathway of care. The Urology team is a small, friendly team that is currently across multiple sites with the main outpatient clinics based in Paignton. We are a supportive team committed to providing our patients an excellent standard of care. We are committed to service improvement and staff development through education and training, helping staff to realise their true potential. We work closely with other departments within the trust striving to provide seamless care to our patient population.
