We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated full time Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist. This post will be based in Exeter and will be part of the highly supportive Exeter and Okehampton Team, delivering a community speech and language therapy service to children and young people within clinic and education settings. Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) is developing an innovative, integrated model of children's community services and looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our friendly and dedicated locality and county‑wide professional teams.

Responsibilities:
- To independently manage, with support from senior colleagues and the team, a caseload of children and young people in the Exeter area with developmental disorders of speech, language and communication.
- To provide a speech and language therapy service of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders of speech, language and communication.
- To provide appropriate intervention and evaluate outcomes.
- To provide advice to parents and carers, early years and school staff and other professionals on matters relating to the speech, language and communication needs of individual children and young people.
- To set up and monitor programmes to be carried out by other key workers.
- To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge.
- To communicate complex condition‑related information from assessment to children/young people and families, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team/other professions in a way that is accessible and easily understood.
- To facilitate strategies for people with communication disorders where barriers to understanding may exist.
- To demonstrate empathy with children/young people and families, carers and colleagues, ensuring effective communication when barriers exist or sensitive issues are being dealt with.
- To develop and demonstrate negotiation skills in the management of conflict across a range of situations, e.g. differences in professional opinion, differing views within families, with support from colleagues as needed.
- To form productive relationships with others who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties.
- To employ good presentation skills to promote multi‑disciplinary and inter‑agency liaison and collaborative practice to a broad range of audiences including other professionals and users.
- To write reports reflecting knowledge of children that can be accessible to both lay and professional people.
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications:
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
- Health Professions Council – Licence to Practice.
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
- Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups.
Essential Knowledge & Experience:
- Relevant experience of working with children and young people with speech, language and communication needs in community / education settings.
- Excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills.
- Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to working with children.
- Well established knowledge of a broad range of appropriate therapeutic interventions to treat children.
