The Torquay District Nurse team are recruiting a permanent Band 2 Phlebotomist to work part time (22.5 hours/week) in our Health and Well-Being Team. Working as a Phlebotomist within an integrated team will result in you working across the community, including Community Nursing, Intermediate Care and Community Matrons. You will be delivering high quality care to housebound patients across the Torquay locality, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and in partnership with primary and secondary care.

Main duties of the job:

  • Demonstrate an awareness of physical, psycho-social, cultural and environmental needs of patients and their family/carer when in patients' homes.
  • To obtain high quality blood samples from patients in the home environment.
  • Responsible for planning and organising own day to day work tasks and activities within an occasionally unpredictable environment.
  • To perform simple nursing procedures after a period of training/supervision from a Registered Nurse.
  • To work independently and as part of a team, participating in team development when required.

Person Specification:

  • Essential Qualifications and training: Trained Phlebotomist, Full Driving Licence
  • Essential Knowledge, experience and skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, Ability to maintain accurate written records, Basic IT skills/ability to use ICE electronic system
  • Desirable Experience: Experience of using SystmOne EPR
  • Specific skills: Previous experience of working in the home environment, Broad range of simple nursing procedures e.g. Venepuncture, BP monitoring
