We are looking for a Fibre Field Technician who would like to help us reach our mission to earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service. This is a field-based role covering Taunton / Bridgewater and surrounding areas. Full training will be provided.
Purpose of this role: Field-based role facilitating the maintenance and incident response for events on the OFNL network.
Your key responsibilities are:
- Perform routine maintenance of telecoms equipment deployed in our Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) network.
- Work for the OFNL wholesale/operational brand and provide support to our Network Operation Centre (NOC) and Field engineering teams.
- Participate in a call out rota to be first responders and carry initial fault diagnosis or maintenance work during out of hours periods including weekends and public holidays.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of OFNL services.
- Day to day maintenance of OFNL's network equipment.
- Site audits against network design standards and specifications.
- Work safely at all times wearing relevant PPE that is supplied.
- Act as an OFNL representative and provide escort for third party access as required.
- Provide remote hands for NOC engineering teams.
- Provide support to field engineers during 2-person activities.
- Create and maintain OFNL documentation as required.
- Attend training courses and keep up to date with relevant technologies.
- Always conduct themselves professionally.
- Demonstrate an enthusiastic and energetic approach and a passion for customer service.
- Communicate both verbally and in writing and form good relationships with staff at other levels within the business.
- Display initiative, make rational and appropriate decisions.
- Follow BU-UK and OFNL procedures proficiently.

Experience/Knowledge:
- Practical experience using hand-held tools.
Abilities/Skills:
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
- Desirable City & Guilds 3667-02.
- NRSWA certificate.
- Safety underground certificate SA002.
- Duct survey certificate S6.
- Experience in network maintenance tasks, GPON/FTTH technology or telecom environment.
- Use of an OTDR tester and ability to analyse results.
- Able to adapt to changing work practices and environment.
Conditions of Employment:
- You are required to have your criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
- You will hold a driving licence.
- You will be required to participate in a standby rota.
