We are looking for a Fibre Field Engineer who would like to help us reach our mission to earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service. We are ideally looking for someone based in Edinburgh. This is a field-based role covering Scotland and the North of England.

Purpose of this role

Field-based role facilitating the maintenance and incident response for events on the OFNL network.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • The Fibre Field Engineer's primary role is to maintain and perform repair OFNL's active and passive network.
  • This position will also require participation in a call-out rota attending faults or maintenance work during out of hours periods including weekends and public holidays.
  • Provide on-site support for both Assure and Provide team functions in the Network Operations Centre.
  • Ensuring that all work is undertaken to a high standard of safety and technical quality by following all appropriate generic and specific method statements, work procedures and safety instructions.
  • Attend broadband, telephone, and TV reception service faults in customer premises.
  • Act as first responder to OFNL incidents in your region.
  • Diagnosing on-site faults to identify root cause and implementing the desired fix in accordance to the Service Level Agreement.
  • Perform periodic maintenance of network assets as required.
  • Work safely at all times wearing relevant PPE that is supplied.
  • Complete all relevant paperwork accurately to the desired standard and return within the communicated timeframe.
  • Optic Fibre repair - Customer facing singleton working in customers' premises, homes, offices, schools etc and off-site in the Openreach underground access network (confined spaces).

Qualifications:

  • CSCS card.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Experience of FTTH networks.
  • Fibre Splicing.
  • Use of an OTDR tester and an ability to analyse results.

Abilities/Skills:

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Desirable City & Guilds 3667-02.
  • NRSWA certificate.
  • Safety underground certificate SA002.
  • Duct survey certificate S6.
  • GPON experience.
  • Hands-on experience in installation and commissioning of telecommunication equipment.
  • Able to adapt to changing work practices and environment.

Conditions of Employment:

  • You are required to have your criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). This is due to going into customers' homes.
  • You will be required to participate in a standby rota.
  • You will hold a driving licence.
