Purpose of this role
Provide electrical design & technical support to the business and its partners, largely in relation to new connection works from the GTC network and assessment of new LCT (Low Carbon Technology) connections on existing supplies. We will consider trainee applications and encourage candidates who do not meet all requirements.
Your key responsibilities are:
- Undertake network demand calculations and design Points of Connection (POCs) from existing electric networks to provide technical solutions and quotations for 3rd party POC applications.
- Undertake network export calculations for modelling of embedded generation applications on existing electric networks to assess and approve embedded generation applications in line with ENA ER G98 & G99 and relevant company standards.
- Undertake network modelling where required for reinforcement designs, including where requirements to incorporate emerging technology.
- Liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), other independents and Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and other departments on all aspects of design.
- Liaise with other departments to progress the design, construction and records process for accepted projects.
- Implement and develop processes to internally communicate any technical and maintenance requirements for accepted projects.
- Develop and use systems and databases to manage customer requirements to facilitate all aspects of DNO and ICP relations.
- Approve peer designs as required under authorisation limits.
- Provide accurate quality work within the department and company.
- Maintain a helpful and informative work environment.
- Assist the Senior Design Engineer in developing greater efficiency within the company.
- Ensure that all relevant information is recorded accurately and submitted on time.
- Any other duties as required by the manager.
Qualifications
Technical qualification in an engineering subject at either Level 2 City & Guilds or equivalent. Membership at a recognised engineering institution, e.g. IET.
Experience/Knowledge
At least one year experience in designing electricity distribution networks. Knowledge of health and safety legislation. Familiarity with current legislation, electrical standards & specifications and ENA recommendations relating to GTC electrical networks and awareness of the implications to safe management of electrical networks based on these procedures.
Abilities/Skills
An Engineer Degree or equivalent. Current CSCS card. Two or more years experience in designing electricity distribution networks. Ability to use Microsoft Office programmes or equivalent. Ability to use network design software, e.g. WinDebut.
