Purpose of this role

Responsible for managing construction activities within the Northwest Region to ensure the successful delivery of multi-utility projects within delivery timescales and budget, whilst maintaining high standards of safety, quality, customer satisfaction and driving operational excellence.

Your key responsibilities are

  • Project Delivery
  • Overall responsibility for the delivery and construction of multi-utility projects within the region.
  • Ensure networks are delivered to the approved designs, within network owner specifications and policies.
  • Manage the construction activities program, ensuring visibility of resource requirements and efficiency of delivery.
  • Manage construction resources to ensure program requirements are met and adequate resources are recruited in line with growth expectations.
  • Ensure construction support services are suitably resourced for programmed works.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote safety culture among construction managers and teams.
  • Assist in ensuring business critical accreditations are maintained.
  • Ensure incidents, near misses & complaints are investigated and ensure all learning is cascaded to the construction team
  • Conduct site audits and inspections to verify compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Liaise with SHEQ to manage the competency of construction teams.
  • Leadership & People Management
  • Manage, coach and mentor construction managers across the region
  • Appropriately manage all HR related matters
  • Complete and record annual performance reviews and competency assessments with direct reports to ensure appropriate feedback, development and training requirements are identified and implemented.
  • Commercial Management
  • Ensure the use of hired plant, equipment and traffic management is controlled and construction materials ordering is managed to maximise usage and minimise waste.
  • Liaise with specialist contractors as required to ensure specification of works are defined and delivered within budget and timescales.
  • Collate monthly delivery performance information
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Liaising with project managers, clients, GTC departments and other third parties as required through the life cycle of the projects.
  • Accountable for the provision of excellent Customer Service.
  • Represent the business at client meetings, regional reviews, and industry events.

Qualifications

Suitably recognised engineering qualification and preferably be an engineering technician registered with an appropriate engineering institution or working towards registration.

Experience/Knowledge

Must have had significant experience in the utility industry.

Must have a working knowledge of current legislation, technical standards & specifications, codes of practice and construction requirements relating to electricity, gas, fibre, or water distribution.

Abilities/Skills

Organised individual who can demonstrate the ability to manage a large number of projects and resources.

IT literate using Microsoft and similar web-based software.

Home base in the Northwest region

You will hold a driving licence.
