Purpose of this role
Reporting to the Tendering & Design Manager, the Tendering & Design Engineer will provide multi-utility quotations and designs for our customers, who are constructing new housing and commercial developments across the UK. You will be responsible for on- and off-site gas, electric, water and fibre quotations and designs in accordance with applicable standards.
Your key responsibilities are:
- Achieve high customer satisfaction with our quotation, design and variation processes.
- Design innovative solutions that satisfy customer and internal stakeholder needs while providing the lowest cost for greatest benefit.
- Liaise closely with the customer to ensure quotations and designs meet expectations.
- Undertake demand calculations, network drawings and variations to ensure designs are fit for purpose, legislatively compliant and in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Submit connection requests to incumbent utility operators and ensure they are returned within required timescales.
- Work with the Land Rights team to ensure accurate designs for land transfers and easements.
- Provide support to internal and external customers as required.
- Produce construction packs for GTC Construction to build within prescribed timescales and customer requirements.
- Liaise with representatives of third-party organisations (incumbent utility operators, highway agencies, local authorities, housing developers, HSE, EPA, etc.) as required.
- Issue data and reports in line with business requirements.
- Maintain and improve consistency and accuracy of data asset records.
- Maintain a helpful and informative, customer-focused work environment across the BUUK group.
- Assist the Tendering & Design Manager/Senior Tendering & Design Engineer in developing greater efficiency within the company.
- Capable of supervising staff.
- Continuously improve the design process.
- Ensure that all relevant information is recorded accurately and timely.
- Comply with the latest company procedures, legislation and industry skills on all aspects of day-to-day work.
- Multi-task and take responsibility for own workload within specified timescales.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Tendering & Design Manager within the general scope of the role.
Qualifications
- Must hold a suitable, recognised associated qualification and be registered as an EngTech engineer with an appropriate institution.
- Must possess a current CSCS card or gas/electricity SHEA passport.
Experience / Knowledge
- Utility Network Design experience.
- Knowledge of current legislation, technical standards & specifications, codes of practice and recommendations relating to utility design.
- Awareness of the implications to safe asset operation of the prescribed standards.
Abilities / Skills
- Understand customer needs and deliver consistently high-quality customer service.
- High standard of written and verbal communication.
Desirable
- High standard of written and verbal communication.
- Proficient in all standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of Geographical Mapping Systems.
