This is a fantastic opportunity to join our fast‑growing manufacturing and fulfilment operation at Butternut Box. As our Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist, you’ll support the HSE Manager in maintaining a safe, compliant, and people‑focused environment across Rudie’s Kitchen and Aces Pantry. You’ll play an important hands‑on role in day‑to‑day HSE activity - from completing checks, supporting audits, to helping with training, investigations and documentation. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their HSE career who is keen to learn, grow and make a real impact. This is a full‑time, Monday to Friday position, based on‑site. The role follows standard office hours, and regular on‑site presence (5 days per week) is required to support day‑to‑day operations and collaboration with our teams.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the implementation and upkeep of our HSE management system, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Helping to promote a strong Health, Safety & Environmental culture across both sites.
- Completing routine site inspections, daily/weekly checks, and first‑level audits, escalating issues to the HSE Manager.
- Assisting with the investigation, recording and reporting of incidents, near misses and hazards — helping to identify and implement improvements.
- Supporting risk assessment activity by gathering information, drafting documentation, and ensuring actions are followed up.
- Assisting in the preparation of HSE reports, KPIs and data analysis to identify trends and opportunities.
- Helping coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring evidence, documentation and follow‑up actions are well organised.
- Supporting PPE management — checking stock levels, liaising with suppliers, and ensuring departments have what they need.
- Providing general HSE guidance to squad members and helping answer day‑to‑day queries.
- Supporting First Aid and Fire Warden programme administration (training schedules, booking courses, record‑keeping).
- Working with the People and Training teams to support delivery of mandatory HSE training.
- Helping maintain high standards of site security by supporting processes and controls as directed by the HSE Manager.
- Playing an active role during site events, drills, safety weeks, induction programmes and engagement activities.
A bit about you:
- Some experience working in a Health & Safety role within a manufacturing, logistics or FMCG environment (food experience a bonus but not essential).
- Eager to progress in the HSE profession and grow your capability through hands‑on learning.
- Familiar with basic HSE practices (e.g., incident reporting, risk assessments, audits) and keen to build deeper technical knowledge.
- Strong communicator – approachable, calm and able to engage with colleagues at all levels.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail; confident managing records, documentation and follow‑up tasks.
- A proactive problem‑solver who is curious, practical and willing to roll up your sleeves.
- Comfortable in a fast‑paced environment and adaptable when priorities shift.
- Confident using PC systems to produce reports, update logs and maintain documentation.
- Holds or is working towards NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (we can support further development).
- Loves dogs (naturally).
