A bit about the role

This is a rare opportunity to join an exciting start-up manufacturing business, Butternut Box.

Supporting the manufacturing & fulfilment facility here at Rudie’s Kitchen in order to ensure that the requirements of all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) legislation are implemented and that the business complies with corporate requirements.

In this role, you can expect to…

  • Develop a HSE management system and implement the relevant initiatives at Rudie’s Kitchen in order to comply with local and national legislation and Environmental standards.
  • Drive a Health & Safety culture across the business.
  • Develop and recommend policies, standards, procedures and systems to ensure procedures are in compliance to H&S and Environmental legislation and site standards.
  • Ensure personal and environmental accidents and incidents are investigated, recorded and reported properly, identifying and recommending improved practices to reduce accidents. Ensure a robust ‘near miss’ process is in place, communicated, understood and is an effective tool for accident reduction.
  • Be the main point of contact for the Health & Safety Executive and the Environmental Agency.
  • Provide assistance and advice and carry out risk assessments in relation to safe systems of work, policies, ways of working, environmental issues, maternity etc, and ensure a robust review process is in place.
  • Tracking and providing statistical KPIs and reports to relevant parties to drive improvements ● To keep the business informed of any new legislation, identify gaps and implement actions to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and manage a robust auditing process. Ensuring audits and auditors are effective. Audits are regular and add value, including acting as the HSE business lead for External Audits.
  • Management of First Aiders, ensuring there is sufficient cover across the business and First Aiders are sufficiently trained and clear on their responsibilities.
  • Develop an effective team of H&S representatives. Ensure well-trained reps with a clear remit. Schedule regular and effective H&S meetings with well-communicated outputs and clear action plans
  • Work with the site Training Team to ensure that H&S and Environmental compliance training requirements are clear and on track. Assist in sourcing training providers and deliver training as required.
  • Work with the People team to advise on Health Surveillance requirements and ensure the site is compliant.
  • Advise departments on appropriate PPE specific to Health and Safety requirements.
  • Manage the outsourced security contract and personnel on site.
  • Support the Site Leadership Team in ensuring site security is robust and appropriate safeguards and systems are in place.

A bit about you

  • Strong experience of working in a H&S role within the fast-moving consumer goods market (FMCG), preferably gained in the food industry within a team-oriented culture ● Significant experience in a H&S role and can demonstrate improvements in H&S culture. ● Experience of successful cross-functional working
  • Expert knowledge of Health and Safety best practice and current legislative requirements ● Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a high-speed volume manufacturing environment ● Supervisory experience with broad working knowledge of relevant safety legislation ● Pragmatic, adaptable, resilient and humble
  • Well-practised planning, organisation and scheduling skills
  • Someone who loves the pace and excitement of FMCG manufacturing
  • Awareness of continuous improvement concepts and practices.
  • Hungry for a challenge and keen to build something from the ground up ● Easily approachable with good interpersonal skills, with creative thinking and analytical skills
  • Results-driven and action-oriented
  • Problem-solving skills and priority setting
  • Excellent PC skills in order to develop communications and produce statistics and reports
  • Significant understanding of HSE Legislation and practical implementation
  • Demonstrable compliance to legislation and use of problem solving skills / personal judgement as well as policy adherence in order to make optimum business decisions.
  • Diploma level NEBOSH, H&S and Environmental qualification or equivalent.
  • Loves dogs (naturally)
