Butler Rose is pleased to be supporting a well-established and growing organisation in the Witney area in their search for a Finance Assistant to join their close-knit finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking for a varied role within a collaborative environment where you will work closely with both finance and operational teams. The role is part-time, spanning 4 - 5 days per week (around 5 hours per day) and is fully office-based. The full-time equivalent (FTE) salary is £29,000, plus a bonus.

The Role

This position sits at the heart of the finance function and will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day financial operations. Reporting to the Management Accountant, you will be responsible for supporting the accuracy of incoming and outgoing payments, managing reconciliations and assisting with wider finance processes. The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience in a finance or accounts role, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Experience with Xero will be an advantage.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing day-to-day payments, including supplier invoices and commission invoices
  • Compiling and processing weekly payment runs including supplier payments, refunds and general expenses
  • Sending remittance advices to suppliers following payment runs
  • Managing multiple bank accounts and processing payments as required
  • Performing regular bank reconciliations
  • Reconciling company credit cards and processing expenses
  • Supporting credit control activities including balance reminders and chasing overdue payments
  • Managing financial records related to customer bookings within accounting systems
  • Supporting internal teams with finance-related queries
  • Assisting the Management Accountant with ad-hoc finance tasks and reporting

Depending on experience, there may also be opportunities to support with balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow reporting and preparation of information for year-end accounts.

Key skills and experience:

  • Experience working in a finance or accounts assistant role
  • Knowledge of Xero or similar accounting software
  • Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
  • AAT qualification or studies desirable but not essential
  • Understanding of VAT principles would be advantageous
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to work
