Are you an experienced Senior Bookkeeper working within accountancy practice and looking for a role where you can manage your own portfolio, work with larger and more complex clients, and join a well-established mid-tier firm with genuine long-term opportunities?

We are working with a highly regarded and established accountancy practice in West London that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join its growing Business Support / Outsourcing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has built solid bookkeeping experience within practice and is now looking for a role with greater responsibility, broader client exposure and the opportunity to become a key member of a growing department. You will be joining an established team of 6 Bookkeepers.

The firm employs approximately 80 staff across audit, tax and business support, with 11 partners, and works with a broad range of owner-managed businesses, larger companies and more complex client structures.

This is not simply a high-volume transactional bookkeeping role. The successful candidate will gradually take ownership of their own portfolio and will be responsible for delivering high-quality bookkeeping, VAT and management accounts support across a varied client base.

THE ROLE

Working as part of an experienced and supportive bookkeeping team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day bookkeeping requirements for a portfolio of clients across a variety of sectors
  • Processing sales and purchase invoices, receipts, payments and journals
  • Preparing and reviewing bank reconciliations and investigating discrepancies
  • Maintaining fixed asset registers and processing depreciation journals
  • Managing general ledger entries and preparing accurate trial balances
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns in line with HMRC requirements
  • Preparing schedules and supporting information for monthly and quarterly management accounts
  • Assisting with management accounts preparation and other financial reporting
  • Supporting year-end accounts preparation and audit schedules where required
  • Acting as a key point of contact for day-to-day client bookkeeping queries
  • Building strong and trusted client relationships
  • Helping clients make effective use of bookkeeping software and cloud-based systems

Managing multiple client deadlines and workflows while maintaining a high standard of accuracy

ABOUT YOU

We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have developed their bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice, outsourcing team or similar professional services environment.

You are likely to have:

  • Around 5 years or more bookkeeping experience, ideally within accountancy practice
  • Strong experience working across multiple client portfolios
  • Excellent double-entry bookkeeping knowledge
  • Good experience preparing VAT returns
  • Confidence dealing with more complex bookkeeping assignments
  • Strong communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and competing priorities
  • A good working knowledge of Xero, QuickBooks and Sage Desktop
  • Experience with Dext, AutoEntry or similar software would be advantageous
  • Exposure to management accounts, statutory accounts or year-end work would also be beneficial
  • Formal qualifications are not essential.

The firm is far more interested in your practical experience, technical ability and confidence managing a varied portfolio of clients.

THE TEAM

You will join an established and growing Business Support function which currently includes a team of experienced senior bookkeepers, payroll specialists, support staff and a dedicated service charge team.

The bookkeeping team is expected to grow further, making this an excellent time to join for someone who wants to become part of a developing department and build a long-term career with the firm.

The wider practice is a substantial mid-tier accountancy firm with approximately 80 staff and 11 partners, including established audit and tax teams. This provides the support, technical expertise and infrastructure of a larger practice while still offering close client contact and individual responsibility.

WHY CONSIDER THIS OPPORTUNITY?

This role would suit someone currently working within a mid-sized accountancy practice who is looking for

  • Exposure to larger and more complex clients
  • Greater ownership of their own portfolio
  • A supportive and experienced bookkeeping team
  • The resources and career opportunities of a substantial mid-tier firm
  • A role where experience is valued more highly than formal qualifications

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • A 36.5 hour working week
  • A salary of Β£43,000 - Β£48,000, depending on experience
