The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has engaged Butler Rose to appoint a high-calibre Non-Executive Director (Lay Member) to its independent Regulatory Board (IRB). This is a rare opportunity to contribute at board level to an organisation operating in the public interest, ensuring the highest standards of professional conduct and regulatory oversight across the accountancy profession.
As part of its Regulation and Conduct Strategy 2030, ICAEW is seeking an individual with deep expertise in data governance, IT-led transformation, or modern technologies, combined with experience in process reengineering oversight. Your insight will support the continued evolution of regulatory frameworks in an increasingly digital and complex environment.
The role requires an experienced board-level professional who can offer strategic guidance, constructive challenge, and independent judgement. You will contribute to shaping policy, overseeing performance, and ensuring that regulatory activities remain robust, effective, and aligned to public expectations.
We are particularly interested in individuals who bring:
- A strong track record in digital or technology-enabled transformation
- Experience of governance, risk, and regulatory or professional standards environments
- The ability to influence at board level and engage with senior stakeholders
- A collaborative, energetic approach with the capacity to challenge and support in equal measure
The IRB meets up to six in-person Board meetings per year (London and Milton Keynes), with additional involvement in subgroups and strategic initiatives as required - we expect 16-20 days in total for time commitment per year. Term of Appointment will be three years with potential for reappointment for a further three years. All Board members receive an annual fee of £10,000 per annum. Expenses are reimbursed in line with ICAEW policy.
This appointment is suited to those motivated by public interest, governance excellence, and the opportunity to shape the future of regulation within a leading professional body. A full role profile and candidate pack will be provided on successful application. All applications, including those submitted directly to ICAEW, will be managed by Anthony Tait at Butler Rose.
Butler Rose is committed to equality in the workplace and is an equal opportunity employer. Butler Rose Ltd is acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy.
