Butler Rose is working alongside our large, complex Business Services client who is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist/Payroll Team Leader to support compliant payroll operations, process improvement, and stakeholder management across a high-volume, multi-entity environment. This is a hands-on permanent role suited to a commercially minded payroll professional who can manage accurate payroll delivery, identify process improvements, and work confidently with internal stakeholders, external providers, and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Support accurate and compliant payroll processing across multiple entities and jurisdictions
- Review payroll data, outputs, reconciliations, and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Ensure payroll processes align with UK legislation, tax requirements, and internal policies
- Manage payroll queries, escalations, and stakeholder requests efficiently
- Work closely with outsourced payroll providers and third-party partners, team management of one offshored team member
- Use HRIS systems, including Dayforce, to support payroll workflows, reporting, and data integrity
- Maintain and improve payroll controls, documentation, and standard operating procedures
- Support audits, year-end activities, statutory reporting, and payroll governance requirements
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and operational efficiencies
- Partner with HR, Finance, and wider business teams on payroll projects and system enhancements
Candidate Profile
- Strong payroll experience within a complex commercial environment
- Good knowledge of UK payroll legislation, compliance, and statutory requirements
- Experience managing outsourced payroll providers and stakeholder relationships
- Experience with Dayforce HRIS or similar payroll systems highly desirable
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and confidentiality
- Comfortable working independently and managing competing deadlines
- Process-driven with a continuous improvement mindset
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
