Butler Rose Lancashire & Cumbria are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a growing, well-established business based in Lancaster, who are looking to strengthen their Purchasing team with the addition of an experienced Buyer / Purchasing Coordinator. The business is seeking a proactive, organised individual to support purchasing operations and ensure continuity of stock, supplier performance, and service levels as the company continues to expand.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: Upto £30k + company bonus
  • Generous monthly company bonus scheme (following successful completion of probation)

The Role

  • Reporting into the Head of Purchasing, you will play a key role in day-to-day purchasing activity, supplier liaison, and stock control.
  • Key Responsibilities
    • Manage stock availability through proactive monitoring of inventory levels and identification of purchasing requirements.
    • Raise and process purchase orders, ensuring accurate communication of product specifications, quantities and delivery schedules to suppliers.
    • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, handling enquiries, obtaining quotations and negotiating competitive pricing and commercial terms.
    • Schedule and manage supplier orders to support production plans and maintain optimal stock levels.
    • Track and expedite purchase orders, ensuring deliveries are made on time and communicating any delays or changes to relevant stakeholders.
    • Coordinate special orders and direct-to-customer deliveries, working closely with sales teams to provide accurate delivery updates and customer communication.
    • Support international procurement activities, including shipment tracking, customs clearance and import documentation requirements.
    • Liaise with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure goods are received accurately, on time and in satisfactory condition.
    • Investigate and resolve delivery discrepancies, shortages and supplier-related issues, implementing corrective actions where required.
    • Maintain accurate supplier records, pricing information and purchasing documentation within company systems.
    • Regularly review supplier pricing and performance to identify cost-saving opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
    • Produce and analyse daily purchasing and stock reports, providing accurate information to support operational and commercial decision-making.

About You

  • To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
  • Previous experience in a purchasing or buying role
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • High levels of organisation with strong attention to detail
  • The ability to manage workloads effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to change
  • A positive attitude when faced with challenges
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office
