Butler Rose Public Practice is delighted to be supporting a well-established accountancy practice in Hitchin in their search for an Audit Senior to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Audit Senior looking to take greater ownership of assignments, build trusted client relationships and continue progressing towards an ACA or ACCA qualification.
You will manage audits from planning through to completion, gain broad practical experience and support the development of junior colleagues within a supportive and professional practice. The role offers excellent exposure to the full audit lifecycle, alongside opportunities to develop your technical knowledge, client management and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of audit assignments from planning through to completion, including risk assessment, fieldwork, testing and analytical review.
- Prepare accurate audit files, working papers and completion documentation in line with the firms methodology and UK auditing standards.
- Review financial statements and supporting documentation, assisting with statutory accounts preparation where required.
- Identify audit issues, control weaknesses and areas for improvement, escalating significant matters to the Audit Manager.
- Act as a key client contact, managing information requests, resolving queries and keeping clients updated throughout assignments.
- Manage multiple assignments, monitoring progress against agreed deadlines and budgets.
- Prepare professional client correspondence and support the efficient onboarding of new clients.
- Supervise and support apprentices and junior colleagues, allocating work, reviewing files and providing constructive feedback.
- Share knowledge with the wider team and contribute to in-house training and a positive learning culture.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge and contribute ideas to improve audit quality, efficiency and the overall client experience.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the practice and support ad hoc accounts, assurance and client projects where required.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years experience within an accountancy practice, including practical audit exposure.
- Currently working towards an ACA or ACCA qualification or newly qualified.
- Knowledge of Caseware (highly beneficial).
- Confident problem-solver with good professional judgement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Proactive, positive and collaborative approach.
- Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
