Salary: £38,000 - £50,000 + bonus

Contract: Permanent, full time (39 hours per week, Monday to Friday)

Butler Rose is delighted to be supporting a leading engineering and manufacturing business based in Plymouth in their search for an experienced Quality Engineer. This is a key role within the quality function, offering the opportunity to work across the full product life cycle in a technically advanced manufacturing environment supplying high-profile customers.

The Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring quality is embedded at every stage - from new product introduction through to end of life. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external customers, the role supports robust quality systems, effective problem solving, and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. You'll contribute to safe, efficient, and lean manufacturing processes, while helping ensure products consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and support a safe, compliant, accident-free working environment
  • Ensure NPI objectives are met, including product and process qualification
  • Support successful transfer of new products into mass production
  • Lead customer complaint investigations and implement effective corrective actions
  • Provide customer-facing quality support where required
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Approve qualification of new machinery, processes and products
  • Complete PPAP requirements
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies with confidence and resilience
  • Work collaboratively across departments to drive continuous improvement

About You

We're keen to speak with Quality Engineers from a manufacturing or engineering background who are confident working cross-functionally and engaging with customers.

Essential experience:

  • HNC or higher qualification in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Quality role
  • Knowledge of measurement techniques and Gauge R&R
  • Experience conducting Cp / Cpk studies
  • Understanding of process audits, OBA and end-of-line inspections
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including critical dimensions and weld identification
  • Experience using structured problem-solving methodologies
  • Internal auditor experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desirable experience:

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
  • ISO 9001 Lead or Internal Auditor qualification
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
  • Experience supporting structured NPI launch processes
  • FMEA experience
  • CQI qualifications
