Butler Rose Procurement & Supply Chain is delighted to be supporting an established and highly regarded manufacturing business with the appointment of a Senior Buyer. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to join a well-established organisation where you will play an important role in managing supplier relationships, delivering commercial value and ensuring the effective procurement of goods and services across the business.

Reporting into the Planning & Procurement Manager, you will take responsibility for a broad range of procurement activities, ensuring goods and services are sourced competitively, efficiently and in line with business requirements. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, balancing commercial objectives with quality, service, compliance and operational requirements.

  • Manage procurement activity across a varied portfolio of goods and services, ensuring competitive commercial outcomes and strong overall value.
  • Lead supplier negotiations, considering the wider cost implications of purchasing decisions rather than simply focusing on initial price.
  • Source products and services from suitably approved suppliers, ensuring requirements around quality, specification, quantity, cost and delivery are consistently achieved.
  • Monitor supplier performance and work collaboratively to resolve any issues relating to quality, pricing, delivery or service.
  • Take ownership of the purchase order process, ensuring orders are accurately raised, acknowledged and maintained within the procurement system.
  • Investigate and resolve purchasing discrepancies, including pricing, delivery and invoice-related issues.
  • Ensure procurement activity complies with relevant legislation, company policies and internal controls.
  • Support the organisation's quality and accreditation requirements, including adherence to relevant ISO and BRC standards.
  • Work closely with internal departments to understand requirements and ensure procurement activity supports operational priorities.
  • Assist with monthly procurement reporting, providing visibility of commercial opportunities, risks, supplier performance and areas requiring attention.
  • Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, supplier arrangements and overall value delivered to the business.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and ensure systems and documentation remain up to date.

We're looking for a commercially minded procurement professional who is confident dealing with suppliers, negotiating effectively and managing multiple priorities within a busy manufacturing environment.

  • Previous experience within a Buyer, Senior Buyer or Procurement position.
  • Experience procuring a broad range of goods and/or services.
  • Excellent commercial awareness, with the ability to assess total cost and value.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using SAP or a similar ERP/procurement system would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment would be beneficial.

The role is office based with 1 day hybrid per week. The client is ready to interview week commencing 17th August so we need a candidate who is based in Cumbria and happy with 4 days per week in the office.

In addition to a competitive salary, the successful candidate will receive an attractive benefits package, including:

  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Employer pension contribution matched up to 9%
  • Hybrid 1 day per week
  • Healthcare cash plan
  • Employee discount platform
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Discounted local gym membership
  • Company sick pay
  • On-site parking
  • Canteen facilities
