Semi-Senior Accountant - Mid-tier Accountancy Practice
Bedford
Up to £34,000

Butler Rose Public Practice is delighted to be supporting a long-established Chartered Certified Accountancy firm in Bedford with the recruitment of a Semi-Senior Accountant.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ACA or ACCA studier with at least two + years experience in a UK practice to join a close-knit team providing accounts, tax, bookkeeping and VAT services to a varied client base. The role offers broad exposure across accounting and tax work, alongside opportunities to develop your technical and client management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare year-end statutory accounts for a range of clients and business entities
  • Prepare VAT returns, personal tax returns and related compliance work
  • Complete bookkeeping assignments in line with Making Tax Digital requirements
  • Maintain accurate accounting records, reconciliations and client files
  • Respond to client queries relating to bookkeeping, accounts, tax and financial processes
  • Support client onboarding and integration, escalating issues to managers where appropriate
  • Manage assignments against agreed deadlines, budgets and fee expectations
  • Monitor budgets, record time accurately and maintain workflow and practice management systems
  • Assist with taxation matters and ad hoc accounting and tax projects
  • Use a range of accounting and practice software, including Xero, QuickBooks and Sage
  • Complete relevant technical and software training and contribute to improvements in systems, processes and client service

Key Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years experience within an accountancy practice
  • Studying towards ACA, ACCA or minimum AAT qualified
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts for a range of business entities
  • Working knowledge of VAT and personal tax compliance
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Xero, QuickBooks and Sage
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
