Butler Rose is delighted to be working alongside a public sector client based in Harrow. They are seeking an experienced Service Accountant to provide professional financial support to Children's Services. This is an approximately 3-6 month role, with the potential for extension. The role offers hybrid working and will pay up to £425 per day via umbrella.

The post holder will act as the dedicated finance link for the service, reporting to the Finance Business Partner for Children & Education, and will play a key role in supporting effective financial management and decision-making.

Key responsibilities:
  • Leading budget setting for Children's Services
  • Monitoring and forecasting revenue and capital budgets
  • Managing grants and completing required statistical and financial returns
  • Supporting and coordinating year-end accounts for Children's Services
  • Providing clear, timely financial advice to senior managers
  • Ensuring compliance with local authority financial regulations and accounting standards
What We're Looking For:

The successful candidate will be a CCAB-qualified accountant (or near finalist with significant relevant experience). They will have strong local authority finance experience, particularly within Children's Services or similar complex service areas. They will demonstrate excellent analytical skills, the ability to communicate financial information clearly, and the confidence to act as a trusted advisor to service managers. They should demonstrate resilience, a results-driven mindset, and the ability to quickly grasp tasks with minimal direction.
