An established and growing accountancy firm is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Chelmsford office. Working with a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SMEs, this role will suit an experienced practice accountant who enjoys hands-on client work, building strong client relationships, and supporting the development of junior team members within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring all financial reporting and submissions are accurate and compliant.
  • Preparing and submitting year-end accounts, corporation tax computations, VAT returns, and confirmation statements.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as a trusted point of contact.
  • Managing client expectations and leading meetings to finalise accounts.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members through training and guidance.
  • Reviewing client deliverables including accounts, tax, PAYE, and VAT work to ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Handling client queries professionally and providing clear, practical advice.
  • Assisting with improving internal processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintaining high standards across client files and compliance work.

Personal Requirements

  • ACA, ACCA or AAT qualified or nearly qualified.
  • Strong experience working within an accountancy practice environment.
  • Proficient with accounting software and systems.
  • Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior staff members.
  • Excellent communication and client management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and committed to delivering a high level of client service.
