Butler Rose is delighted to be recruiting for a Quality Engineering Manager on behalf of a well-established and growing manufacturing business based in Plymouth.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced quality professional to take ownership of quality engineering activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, driving continuous improvement, supporting new product introduction, and leading a high-performing team.
The Opportunity
As Quality Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring products, processes, and systems consistently meet customer, regulatory, and business requirements.
Reporting into senior leadership, you will lead the Quality Engineering function and work closely with Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to deliver quality excellence across the business.
This role would suit an experienced Quality Manager, Quality Engineering Manager, Senior Quality Engineer or Quality Team Leader looking to make a significant impact within a highly respected manufacturing organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop the Quality Engineering team.
- Drive a culture of quality, continuous improvement and problem-solving.
- Manage customer complaints and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented.
- Lead 8D investigations and root cause analysis activities.
- Monitor, manage and report on key quality KPIs.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including qualification processes.
- Manage part qualification activities for NPI projects and engineering changes.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, company standards and ISO management systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
- Conduct appraisals, coaching and development activities for the quality team.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture across the department.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have
Essential
- HNC or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.
- Proven experience within a manufacturing quality function.
- Previous leadership or management experience within manufacturing.
- Experience developing and managing engineering or quality teams.
- Knowledge of structured NPI processes.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong organisational and workload management skills.
Desirable
- Degree in an Engineering discipline.
- CQI Quality qualification.
- CMI Level 4 or 5 Management qualification.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with PPAP requirements.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Understanding of capability studies and measurement techniques.
