Semi-Senior Accountant – Mid-tier Accountancy Practice

Butler Rose Public Practice is delighted to be supporting a long-established Chartered Certified Accountancy firm in Bedford with the recruitment of a Semi-Senior Accountant.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ACA or ACCA studier with at least two + years experience in a UK practice to join a close-knit team providing accounts, tax, bookkeeping and VAT services to a varied client base. The role offers broad exposure across accounting and tax work, alongside opportunities to develop your technical and client management skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare year-end statutory accounts for a range of clients and business entities
- Prepare VAT returns, personal tax returns and related compliance work
- Complete bookkeeping assignments in line with Making Tax Digital requirements
- Maintain accurate accounting records, reconciliations and client files
- Respond to client queries relating to bookkeeping, accounts, tax and financial processes
- Support client onboarding and integration, escalating issues to managers where appropriate
- Manage assignments against agreed deadlines, budgets and fee expectations
- Monitor budgets, record time accurately and maintain workflow and practice management systems
- Assist with taxation matters and ad hoc accounting and tax projects
- Use a range of accounting and practice software, including Xero, QuickBooks and Sage
- Complete relevant technical and software training and contribute to improvements in systems, processes and client service
Key Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years experience within an accountancy practice
- Studying towards ACA, ACCA or minimum AAT qualified
- Experience preparing statutory accounts for a range of business entities
- Working knowledge of VAT and personal tax complianceStrong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Xero, QuickBooks and Sage
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
