Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for an opportunity to take ownership of your own client portfolio and broaden your experience within an established accountancy practice? We are working with a well-established accountancy practice in Warrington, Cheshire, who are looking to strengthen their team with an experienced Senior Payroll Assistant. This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident managing payroll from start to finish, enjoys dealing directly with clients and would like to develop their experience within a supportive practice environment. Please note: this is an office-based role in Warrington, so candidates must be based locally and able to commute to the office.

THE ROLE

  • You will take responsibility for your own portfolio of client payrolls, managing the process from start to finish and ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, efficiently and within the required deadlines.
  • The role offers a good level of variety, with responsibility for weekly and monthly payrolls, alongside additional payroll-related work including CIS returns and benefits in kind.
  • You'll have regular contact with clients, HMRC and colleagues across the practice, making this a varied opportunity for someone who enjoys both the technical and client-facing aspects of payroll.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing your own portfolio of client payrolls from start to finish
  • Processing weekly and monthly payrolls accurately and within agreed deadlines
  • Maintaining accurate client and employee payroll records
  • Processing payroll using Superpay
  • Managing auto-enrolment and associated pension requirements
  • Responding to payroll queries from clients, HMRC and internal colleagues
  • Keeping up to date with changes to payroll legislation
  • Processing a small number of CIS returns
  • Processing benefits in kind through payroll software
  • Identifying and resolving payroll queries and discrepancies
  • Ensuring payrolls and associated submissions are completed accurately and on time
  • Working independently while contributing positively to the wider team

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for an experienced payroll professional who is confident managing payroll independently and understands the importance of accuracy, confidentiality and deadlines. You could currently be working within an accountancy practice or industry, provided you have solid end-to-end payroll experience.

YOU'LL IDEALLY HAVE

  • Previous experience working in a payroll role
  • Experience managing multiple payrolls or a client payroll portfolio
  • Previous experience with auto-enrolment
  • Experience processing weekly and monthly payrolls
  • A good understanding of payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good client-facing communication skills
  • A friendly, professional and efficient approach to dealing with queries
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Experience of Superpay would be advantageous, although candidates with strong payroll experience using other payroll systems will also be considered.

WHAT'S ON OFFER?

  • Circa £30,000, depending on experience
