Ready for your next step in practice? Are you an experienced Audit Senior, Assistant Audit Manager or Audit Manager who enjoys more than simply working on audit files? Perhaps you're currently working within a larger or mid-tier practice where your role has become increasingly specialised and you'd like to get back to a broader general practice environment, with greater exposure to clients and the opportunity to become involved across different areas of their work. This could be an excellent opportunity to join an established, independent accountancy practice in Liverpool, with a varied portfolio of SME, owner-managed and not-for-profit clients.

This is a broader role than pure audit. This is not a role where you'll simply be expected to manage audits from planning through to completion. Working within an independent practice means you'll have the opportunity to build much closer relationships with clients and become involved in a broader range of work. Alongside audit, this can include accounts and accounting-related queries, due diligence, problem solving and supporting clients with their wider financial needs. It's therefore an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys being a well-rounded practice accountant, rather than being restricted to one area of the business.

THE OPPORTUNITY

  • You'll take ownership of a portfolio of audit assignments, managing them from planning through to completion, while becoming a key point of contact for clients.
  • You'll also manage and support a small team of 3-4 people and have the opportunity to become involved in pitches, tenders, business development and identifying opportunities within existing client relationships.
  • Importantly, there is a clear longer-term opportunity to progress towards RI status, with the successful individual expected to understudy the existing management team and ultimately play a leading role in the firm's audit offering.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Managing a portfolio of audit assignments from planning through to completion.
  • Acting as a key contact for a varied portfolio of SME, owner-managed and not-for-profit clients.
  • Building strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Managing and supporting a team of 3-4 staff.
  • Reviewing audit work and maintaining high standards of audit quality.
  • Managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Supporting clients with accounting queries and wider financial matters.
  • Becoming involved in ad hoc projects, including due diligence and problem solving.
  • Getting involved in pitches, tenders and identifying opportunities within existing client relationships.
  • Supporting the firm's audit quality control processes.
  • Developing towards R.I. status and taking an increasingly senior role in the firm's audit offering.

WHO WOULD SUIT THIS ROLE?

We're looking for an ACA or ACCA qualified accountant with a strong practice background and solid audit experience.

YOU COULD BE.....

  • An Audit Senior ready to step up into management.
  • An Assistant Audit Manager looking for greater responsibility and client exposure.
  • An existing Audit Manager looking to move into a more hands-on independent practice.

What's particularly important is that you are comfortable working across a broader practice environment. This is unlikely to suit someone whose experience has been exclusively audit-focused and who wants to remain within a specialist audit-only role.

YOU'LL NEED

  • ACA or ACCA qualification.
  • Strong UK practice experience.
  • Solid audit experience.
  • Good knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards.
  • Experience managing audit assignments and competing deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to audit quality.
  • The confidence to deal directly with clients.
  • A commercially minded and proactive approach.
  • The ability to manage and develop junior team members.
  • A willingness to get involved across the wider practice where required.

Experience of SRA Accounts Rules Reviews would be advantageous but is not essential.

WHY CONSIDER IT?

If you're currently working within a larger practice, this could be the chance to step up while broadening your experience at the same time. You'll have greater ownership of your clients, closer relationships with business owners, more involvement in the wider practice and the opportunity to develop commercially - rather than being restricted to one specialist area. For someone who wants to become a well-rounded practice professional and progress towards R.I. status, this could be a very strong next career move.
