Reports To: Operations Manager / Contracts Manager / Senior Team Lead

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 16:00 (Overtime and Emergency Call-Out Required)

Job Purpose

To safely operate and maintain the company's Jet Vacuum Tanker, delivering high-quality drainage, environmental and industrial cleaning services to commercial, industrial, utility and domestic clients. The role requires a proactive individual who is committed to safety, customer service and delivering work to the highest professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Operation

  • Safely operate Jet Vacuum Tankers (Class 2/Class 1)
  • Drive in accordance with all DVSA regulations and company policies
  • Complete daily vehicle defect inspections and report faults immediately
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean, presentable and fully operational
  • Manage fuel usage efficiently

Jet Vacuum Operations

  • High-pressure water jetting
  • Gully emptying
  • Interceptor cleaning
  • Wet well cleaning
  • Pump station cleaning
  • Culvert cleaning
  • Catchpit cleaning
  • Flood response
  • Tank cleaning
  • Emergency spill response
  • Silt removal
  • Waste removal and transportation
  • Blockage clearance

Drainage Operations

Carry out works including:

  • Emergency drainage call-outs
  • Planned maintenance
  • Sewer cleansing
  • Root removal
  • Surface water system maintenance
  • Highway drainage cleaning

Health & Safety

Work safely in accordance with:

  • Health & Safety at Work Act
  • ISO 45001 Management System
  • Company Safe Systems of Work
  • Method Statements
  • Confined Space Procedures

Responsibilities include

  • Wearing appropriate PPE
  • Completing dynamic risk assessments
  • Reporting accidents, incidents and near misses
  • Identifying unsafe conditions
  • Protecting members of the public
  • Following traffic management requirements

Ensure compliance with:

  • Driver CPC Regulations
  • Tachograph legislation
  • Company operating procedures
  • Vehicle maintenance schedules

Customer Service

Represent Butler Bros Drainage & Civils professionally by:

  • Maintaining a smart appearance

Equipment Care

Responsible for:

  • Daily cleaning of the tanker
  • Jetting hose inspections
  • Vacuum hose inspections
  • Tool maintenance
  • Stock control
  • Ensuring equipment is ready for deployment

Teamwork

  • Work effectively with Drainage Operatives
  • Support apprentices and trainees
  • Assist other departments when required
  • Participate in toolbox talks
  • Attend training sessions
  • Share knowledge and best practice
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • HGV Class 2 (Category C) Licence
  • Valid Driver CPC
  • Digital Tachograph Card
  • Good understanding of driver hours regulations
  • Experience operating HGV vehicles

Salary & Benefits

Salary: £15.00–£17.00 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Overtime Rates

We recognise and reward flexibility and commitment with enhanced overtime rates.

  • 1.5x hourly rate for all hours worked:
  • Before 07:30 Monday to Friday
  • After 16:00 Monday to Friday
  • 2x hourly rate for:
  • All hours worked on Sundays
  • All hours worked on UK Bank Holidays
