A proper pub. A special place. A big opportunity. The Mayflower has been part of Lymington life since 1923. Sitting right by the marina, it’s a pub with real heritage, an incredible setting, and so much more to give. It’s loved, it’s local — and it’s ready to shine. We’re looking for an Assistant Manager to help us bring the Mayflower’s next chapter to life. Someone who loves pubs, loves people, and wants to be part of building something genuinely special. This is a hands-on role in a pub with huge potential. You’ll be right at the heart of it — welcoming guests, leading the team, keeping standards high, and helping turn great moments into memorable ones. From busy weekends to events, celebrations and everyday service, no two days will be the same.
Responsibilities and requirements:
- A genuine love for people — you’ll be visible, confident and leading from the front.
- Pride in doing things properly, keeping standards high across service, presentation and detail.
- Energy and enthusiasm to help grow events, celebrations and special occasions at the Mayflower.
- A hands-on approach to supporting and developing a friendly, motivated team.
- A natural focus on great hospitality, making sure every guest leaves happy and well looked after.
- Confidence balancing great service with the day-to-day organisation and admin that keeps the pub running smoothly.
- A desire to be part of something bigger — helping shape the future of a historic pub, not just running shifts.
What’s in it for you?
- Flexible hours that support a healthy work/life balance — we know life doesn’t run on a rota.
- The chance to be part of an award-winning business, recognised at the National Publican Awards and National Innovation in Training Awards.
- Access to our Benefits Bar, giving you discounts and cashback on big-name retailers, holidays, groceries and more.
- Length of service awards to celebrate your milestones and recognise your commitment.
- An extra day’s holiday for your birthday — because it should be celebrated properly.
- A holiday purchase scheme, so you can buy extra days off when you need them.
- Bespoke training and development plans, with clear support to help you progress your career.
- Access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities, both industry-led and personal.
- Proper team perks, including team parties and a 30% discount across all Butcombe Pubs & Inns (plus 50% off food when you’re on shift).
- Ongoing wellbeing support, including 24/7 Employee Assistance and our partnership with the Burnt Chef Project, supporting mental health in hospitality.
Events experience is a bonus, but not essential. What matters most is the right attitude, a love for hospitality, and the drive to help make the Mayflower the place people choose again and again. This is a real opportunity to make your mark. It’ll be busy, it’ll be rewarding, and it’ll be full of moments worth being proud of. If you’re ready to help wake a sleeping giant and be part of something special, we’d love to hear from you. Come and build the next chapter of the Mayflower with us.
