About The BUSY School… The BUSY School is part of The BUSY Group, a not-for-profit organisation providing employment services, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, mentoring, Inclusive Employment Support, and allied health services. The BUSY School is an independent Special Assistance School with 10 campuses across Queensland and New Zealand, providing an alternative program for Year 11 and 12 students who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education. Our program has expanded to include The BUSY School Online (TBSO) offering flexible access to our program for all students across Queensland.

Each campus provides a supportive and safe learning environment for young people by providing them with an education program that includes vocational education and training (VET), work experience and opportunities for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Our team supports the students to gain employability and transferability skills to increase their sense of wellbeing, resilience, belonging, academic achievement, career exploration and employment outcomes. Our focus is centred on re-engaging our students to learn, remain eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and gain employment or further training outcomes upon graduation from Year 12.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced inclusion professional to step into a newly strengthened leadership role that drives consistent, compliant and evidence-informed learning support practices across our campuses. As the Assistant Head of Inclusion (Learning Support), you’ll play a key role in removing barriers to learning, building staff capability, and ensuring our inclusive education practices meet SAS requirements, legislative obligations and the diverse needs of our students.

  • Implementing inclusive frameworks: Support the rollout of a whole-school Learning Support and Inclusion framework aligned with SAS requirements and best practice.
  • Coordinating NCCD processes: Oversee accuracy, consistency, documentation and audit readiness across campuses, escalating risks where required.
  • Leading ILP development: Coordinate the creation, implementation and review of ILPs and related learning support documentation.
  • Supporting identification of learning needs: Guide campus teams through enrolment-stage assessments, referrals and ongoing monitoring.
  • Coaching and advising staff: Provide practical guidance on reasonable adjustments, differentiation and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Collaborating on student-centred plans: Work closely with wellbeing and engagement teams to integrate learning and wellbeing supports.
  • Ensuring compliance: Support monitoring of obligations under the DDA and DSE, escalating issues as needed.
  • Building external partnerships: Maintain relationships with allied health professionals and specialists to support student needs.
  • Delivering professional learning: Contribute to staff capability building in inclusion, adjustments and learning support processes.
  • Using data for improvement: Support data collection and reporting to inform continuous improvement.

Skills And Experiences About You

  • Experience in learning support, inclusive education or curriculum support.
  • Strong working knowledge of NCCD, reasonable adjustments and inclusive education legislation.
  • Experience supporting students with disability, diverse learning needs or complex profiles.
  • Excellent documentation, case coordination and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple campuses.
  • High-level professional communication, discretion and sound judgement.
  • A genuine commitment to strengths-based, inclusive education.
  • Qualifications in Education, Special Education or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years’ experience in learning support, inclusion or coordination roles.
  • Queensland Teacher Registration (desirable).
  • Blue Card.
  • National Police Check.
  • Open driver’s licence.
