The Role: This is a cornerstone role for product development at B+P. You are an engineer, obsessed with detail. Lateral thinking is second nature, where challenges are solved with efficiency and logic. You can make the ‘big’ decisions and engage accordingly. You know how to ‘do the doing’ and have extensive experience in successful delivery with a consumer brand. You have expertise in at least one of our Hardware, Electricity or Lighting categories and extensive exposure to, ideally leadership of, product development for global markets. You can lead people with a team of varied experience, skill and seniority. You coach and empower and have a real passion for what you do. Above all, you’ve got a can-do attitude and make the B+P vision a reality, fostering strong relationships based on successful delivery along the way. There’s growth within the role for both you and the team reporting to you, with the opportunity to join B+P at a particularly exciting time. International travel will be required.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Product Development team at B+P, building structure and scale to a high performing function of the business.
- Actively define and contribute to product development, and wider product team strategy.
- Deliver extraordinary product from concept to manufacture, to B+P quality and performance standards.
- Optimize cost through design for manufacture, production and range optimization.
- Own end to end development pathway to pre-defined milestones, governing schedule adherence across the team.
- Unblock development challenges with logic and autonomy.
- Produce 3D CAD models, and 2D drawing packs using SolidWorks.
- Drive consistency in process and documentation.
- Facilitate product compliance readiness, working closely with Compliance and Quality.
- Encourage continuous improvement; templates, process and product for all New Product launches.
- Ensure clear stage gates, deliverables and governance across all projects.
- Define and validate Product Specification documents.
- Own resolution of critical product development challenges.
- Compile the relevant aspects of Product Technical File, with meticulous and repeatable precision.
- Partner with Product Management on requirements; own the execution.
- Seamless communication with Product team, specifically Product Management, Compliance, Quality, Supply Chain, Production.
- Support supplier selection, onboarding, and ongoing performance optimization.
- Facilitate engineering engagement with manufacturing partners.
- Balance design intent, cost and margin to support commercial product success.
- Contribute to range architecture and SKU efficiency.
- Clean and structured communication with cross functional teams.
- Identify and mitigate technical, supplier and delivery risks proactively.
- Promote good working relationships with manufacturing partner.
- Set clear objectives, performance standards and development plans.
- Report and maintain KPI performance dashboards to include project status, risks and milestones.
- International travel will be required; 2-6 times per year.
Education and Qualifications: Degree preferred but not essential. GCSE Maths and English required.
