Are you a driven, curious accountant who loves getting to the bottom of the numbers — and the story behind them? We're a family-owned motor retail group with a genuine team culture, and we're looking for someone special to join us as Management Accountant.

Who We Are

We are a proud, independently owned motor retail group representing exceptional automotive brands. We've built our business on relationships — with our customers, our manufacturers, and above all, with our people. Being family-owned means we do things differently. There's no faceless corporate hierarchy here — decisions get made, voices get heard, and contributions are recognised. You'll work closely with senior leadership from day one, and the culture is one of genuine support, trust, and shared ambition. We invest in our team because we know that when our people thrive, our business does too.

The Role

This is a key finance role sitting at the heart of the business. You'll be responsible for producing timely and accurate management accounts, supporting business leaders with financial insight, and helping drive performance across our dealerships. It's a hands-on position for someone who is as comfortable in the detail as they are in the boardroom conversation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining the Fixed Asset Register
  • Producing variance analysis and commentary that helps leaders understand what's driving performance
  • Analysing operational and financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for growth
  • Business partnering with department heads across sales, aftersales, and operations
  • Managing the Finance team to support their development, manage workloads and help them perform at their best
  • Supporting the annual budget process
  • Supporting quarterly VAT returns
  • Ensuring compliance with composite reporting requirements for all OEMs
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and efficiency across the finance function
  • Supporting year-end financial audit and working with external auditors

Who We're Looking For

Qualifications and experience matter, but character matters more. We want somebody who brings genuine enthusiasm to their work and who will thrive in a busy, dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will be:

  • Driven: You set high standards for yourself and take pride in delivering great work. You are proactive and make things happen.
  • Curious: You ask why. You look beyond the numbers to understand the business. You're always looking to learn and improve.
  • Organised: You juggle competing priorities with calm efficiency. Deadlines don't faze you — because you plan ahead and deliver.

In addition, you will have:

  • An active study route for achieving professional qualification or be qualified by experience
  • Experience within a similar role managing or mentoring members of a finance team
  • Strong Excel skills and comfortable working with financial reporting systems
  • Experience of presenting and interpreting KPI information in Power BI
  • The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
  • A genuine interest in understanding the businesses you support — not just the numbers
  • Motor retail or multi-site industry experience would be advantageous but not essential

What We Offer

A basic salary of £40,000 per annum depending on experience. Support with ongoing professional qualification (study support and exam leave). A genuinely supportive, family-feel workplace where your input is valued. Direct access to senior leadership and real scope to influence the business. Opportunity to grow with an ambitious, expanding group. Employee vehicle schemes and manufacturer discounts. Company pension and annual leave package.

Inclusive Working

Busseys are dedicated to providing an inclusive culture throughout the whole business and actively promote diversity with the elimination of discrimination in the workplace. We are committed to ensuring every employee and job applicant is treated fairly and no less favourably based on the grounds of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religion or belief. We are opposed to all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination.
