We are seeking 3 experienced Revenues Processing Officers to support the delivery of an efficient and accurate Council Tax service. The successful candidates will be responsible for processing Council Tax accounts, determining liability, assessing discounts and exemptions, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with legislation, council policies and service standards.
This role is suitable for an experienced local authority revenues professional who can quickly become operational and manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision.
- Council Tax Administration
- Process changes of occupancy, ownership and liability.
- Create, amend and close Council Tax accounts.
- Assess and process discounts, exemptions, disregards and reductions.
- Issue revised bills, notices and statutory correspondence.
- Maintain accurate account records and ensure data integrity.
- Verify information received from residents, landlords, managing agents and internal departments.
- Account Maintenance
- Investigate and process changes affecting Council Tax liability.
- Review and update customer records using information received from various sources.
- Identify discrepancies and take appropriate action to ensure account accuracy.
- Maintain compliance with relevant legislation and council procedures.
- Correspondence and Casework
- Handle written enquiries received by email, online forms and correspondence.
- Investigate and resolve account queries within agreed service standards.
- Draft clear, accurate and professional written responses.
- Deal with complex casework requiring interpretation of legislation and council policy.
- Recovery and Collection Support
- Undertake account reviews and process recovery-related transactions.
- Prepare accounts for recovery action in accordance with council procedures.
- Process account amendments arising from recovery activities.
- Support the efficient collection of Council Tax through prompt and accurate processing.
- Performance and Quality
- Achieve individual productivity and accuracy targets.
- Ensure all work is completed within agreed timescales.
- Adhere to service procedures, legislation and quality standards.
Requirements
- Recent experience working within a Local Authority Council Tax service.
- Proven experience processing Council Tax accounts.
- Good working knowledge of Council Tax legislation.
- Experience assessing discounts, exemptions and liability matters.
- Experience using NEC Revenues (Northgate).
- Ability to manage a busy caseload and work to deadlines.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to analyse information and make sound decisions based on legislation and policy.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.
