Role Overview
WSP’s Rating team provides specialized Rating and Valuation services in commercial real estate.
The role focuses on managing property portfolios, verifying rates bills, liaising with authorities, and delivering accurate client reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily operational management of one large complex client portfolio or multiple smaller portfolios.
- Verification of rates bills issued by billing authorities for properties across England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland.
- Resolve queries on unapproved rates bills and liaise with clients and authorities about occupational changes, rating list changes, exemptions, and reliefs.
- Obtain information from clients and respond to queries.
- Ensure all portfolio movements are actioned appropriately.
- Create and deliver quality mandatory reports to clients and senior management.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, attending client meetings when appropriate.
- Meet all KPIs defined in Client Contracts and Service Level Agreements, and agreed deadlines.
- Assist in one‑off audits of historic rate payments.
- Explain Client Monies service functions and perform Client Monies tasks when required.
Requirements
- Good understanding of calculating rate liabilities, rating appeal, and rate relief processes across the UK and Channel Islands.
- Working knowledge of business rate legislation and case law; able to explain to clients and junior staff.
- Excellent negotiation and reasoning skills when dealing with billing authorities.
- Attention to accuracy, timeliness and presentation in client reporting.
- Sound financial and numeracy skills demonstrating accuracy and financial prioritisation.
- Complete understanding of Client Monies Service and RICS Rule 8 Protecting Client Money.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and able to apply intermediate formulas to manipulate data.
