Role title: Treasurer

Status: Trustee (voluntary)

Time commitment: Approximately 2–4 hours per month

Term: 3 years (renewable)

The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring that funds are used appropriately, financial records are accurate, and the charity remains financially sustainable and compliant with legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial oversight
  • Monitor the charity's financial position and ensure it remains solvent
  • Provide oversight with income, expenditure, and cash flow
  • Ensure funds are used in line with the charity's objectives
  • Budgeting and planning
    • Support and present the annual budget to trustees for final approval
    • Support financial planning and forecasting
    • Advise the board on financial implications of strategic decisions
  • Financial reporting
    • Support and present regular financial reports to the board in an understandable format
    • Ensure trustees understand the charity's financial position
    • Be involved in overseeing the preparation of annual accounts and financial statements
  • Compliance and governance
    • Ensure compliance with relevant charity and financial regulations
    • Liaise with independent examiner or auditor (if required)
    • Ensure appropriate financial controls and policies are in place

    Skills and Experience

    • Some financial literacy and confidence with numbers
