ABOUT THE ROLE

Smart Works is looking for a qualified / part qualified accountant or someone from an accountancy background to join our community and become a Trustee Treasurer. This is an important position, with the successful candidate working closely with the Chair of Smart Works Bristol to ensure the charity is well-run and effective.

The Treasurer has oversight of the financial strategy and management of their local Smart Works centre. They monitor the financial health of the charity and ensure the wider Board are provided with the financial information they need to make well-considered decisions.

The successful candidate will ensure financial procedures are followed, complete a monthly review of income and expenditure and feed into the annual fundraising strategy for their Smart Works centre.

SUPPORT FROM THE CENTRAL FINANCE TEAM

The Treasurer is supported in their role by a Central Finance Team.

The Central Finance Team includes a Director of Finance who has oversight of the financial health of the charity and leads the annual budget and audit process, and two Finance Managers who provide hands-on support to the Treasurers working across the Smart Works group.

On a day-to-day basis, the Central Finance Team complete the bookkeeping on Xero, produce financial reports, schedule payments and prepare payroll. They give the Treasurer the information they need to fulfil their duties and provide financial insight to their Board.

As the Treasurer holds an important strategic role within their Smart Works centre, all Treasurers are invited to attend a quarterly call with the Group Treasurer for Smart Works Charity. These calls allow for the Treasurers working across the group to discuss any challenges with others playing the same role, whilst also contributing to important strategic discussions relating to financial management.
