About 100 & First Foundation
100 & First Foundation is an award-winning charity committed to disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline. We intervene where people are most at risk, when a child is about to be excluded from school, when a young person is vulnerable to gangs or exploitation, or when someone is leaving prison without a plan or support.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for a Trustee with experience in HR and safeguarding to join our friendly and committed Board. Now that we have 6 employees and work in a school environment, it is imperative that our Safeguarding and HR skillset is exemplary. You will bring strategic insight and professional expertise to help the Board ensure the charity is a well-governed, inclusive and effective employer. You will support the organisation to attract, develop and retain talented staff and volunteers, while meeting its legal and ethical responsibilities as an employer. Alongside your fellow Trustees, you will also be responsible for the overall governance, administration and strategic direction of the charity, including developing its aims, objectives and goals in accordance with relevant organisation and legal guidelines.
Time Commitment and Location
Whilst we mainly operate in the Dorset area, we are open to candidates from further afield. Approximately 2 days per month, including Board meetings (typically 4 per year), one-off meetings and ad-hoc support.

- Significant experience in HR, people management, or organisational development.
- Strategic-level understanding of people practices (not just operational delivery).
- Ability to apply professional judgement in a charity or values-led context.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to provide challenge and support at Board level.
- Commitment to the charity’s mission, values, and beneficiaries.

- Experience of senior HR leadership or consultancy.
- Understanding of employment issues in the voluntary or not-for-profit sector.
- Experience of governance, Board membership, or committee work.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, volunteer management, or culture change programmes.
