Pro Bono Finance Advisor (Time-Bound Advisory Role)

Organization Type: U.S.-registered nonprofit, operating at a global level

Role Type: Pro bono / volunteer (unpaid)

Time Commitment: ~4–6 hours per month

Duration: 3–6 months (with possibility of extension by mutual agreement)

About the Organization

We are an early-stage, mission-driven nonprofit registered in the United States and operating internationally. As we prepare for grant funding and institutional partnerships, we are strengthening our financial governance, systems, and grant readiness.

Role Purpose

The Pro Bono Finance Advisor will provide strategic, advisory support to help establish sound financial foundations and prepare the organization for funding. This is not an operational or bookkeeping role, but an opportunity to contribute professional expertise at a critical formative stage.

Key Responsibilities (Advisory Only)

  • Advise on basic financial governance structures and best practices
  • Review and provide feedback on:
  • Budget framework and assumptions
  • Cash-flow planning
  • Financial policies (e.g., internal controls, reserves, expense approval)
  • Support grant and donor financial readiness (tracking, reporting structures, compliance considerations)
  • Provide guidance on financial risks associated with global operations
  • Collaborate with the Board Treasurer and/or Finance Committee as appropriate
  • What This Role Is Not:

    • Not a paid position
    • Not a promise of future employment or compensation
    • Not responsible for day-to-day accounting, bookkeeping, or transaction execution
    • Not a signing authority or fiduciary officer role

    Ideal Profile

    • Finance professional with experience in:
    • Nonprofit or NGO finance
    • Grant-funded or restricted-fund environments
    • Audit, accounting, or financial planning
  • CPA, CFA, or equivalent designation preferred, not required
  • Comfortable advising early-stage organizations and working with boards
  • Interest in mission-driven, global work
